AN INTRODUCTION TO CBT STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES.                                    HOME

ONCE THE COURSE IS COMPLETED STUDENTS ARE SUPPORTED WITH SUPERVISION AND MENTORING.

Day 1

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Give a brief description of the Cognitive behavioural therapy model
• Identify the CBT client session structure
• Identify automatic thoughts
• Analyses and evaluate automatic thoughts
• Instruct clients on how to use a Dysfunctional Thought Record form
• Evaluate and identify alternative ways of thinking using the DTR form

Day 2

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Instruct a client on how to develop and use an emotional intensity scale
  • Complete a conceptualisation form and diagram
  • Complete therapy notes and feedback forms
  • Evaluate a Depression Inventory and an Anxiety Inventory
  • Identify effective questioning techniques to elicit automatic thoughts

Day 3

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Identify intermediate beliefs by evaluating the evidence provided by completed client forms and through the client interview
• Complete a dysfunctional attitude scale and interpret the outcomes
• Evaluate when it is appropriate to modify an intermediate belief
• Construct new functional intermediate beliefs
• Modify intermediate beliefs using various techniques

Day 4

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Identify core beliefs by evaluating the evidence provided by completed client forms and through the client interview
  • Evaluate when it is appropriate to modify a core belief
  • Construct new functional core beliefs
  • Modify core beliefs using various techniques
  • Complete a core belief worksheet


Day 5

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Convert a client’s problem into a SMART goal
• Identify problem solving techniques using various worksheets
• Construct and develop a coping card
• Develop behaviour experiments and identify the value of their application
• Identify various uses of: a) activity chart and b) monitor chart
• Identify and apply additional CBT strategies for various disorders/problems/illnesses

Optional Day 6

Application of strategies for specific conditions

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Describe various CBT techniques and strategies and how they can be applied during therapy
• Describe presenting symptoms of General Anxiety Disorder and Panic Attacks.
• Identify a selection of CBT strategies and techniques that can be utilised in the treatment of Anxiety
• Identify a selection of CBT strategies and techniques that can be utilised in the treatment of OCD

Optional Day 7

Application of strategies for specific conditions

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Describe the presenting symptoms of Depression 

• Identify a selection of CBT strategies and techniques that can be utilised in the treatment of Depression

• Identify the underlying core beliefs that are common to clients presenting with weight issues and identify a selection of CBT strategies and techniques that can support the treatment approach 
 


Supervision cost: £20.00 per half hour session.
